Alarm Registration and Renewals Due By December 31

Individuals and businesses are required to register their burglar and fire alarm systems. This annual registration allows the police and fire departments to keep more up-to-date records on alarm holders and important keyholder information. The fee is $35 for fire alarm systems and $35 for police alarm systems (panic, burglary, duress, medical, holdup). New to Hopkins? Need to renew your alarm system registration? Fill out the online Alarm User Permit form or call City Hall at 952-548-6300 for a paper copy of the application. Permits are required to be renewed annually before December 31. Find more information about alarm registration.

Charter Commission Applications Due December 31

The City of Hopkins is seeking dedicated residents to serve on the Charter Commission. The Charter Commission helps review and maintain the City’s Charter, ensuring that Hopkins’ governing document remains effective and up to date. Interested residents are encouraged to apply online by December 31. Final appointments are made by the Chief Judge of Hennepin County. To learn more about the role and responsibilities of the Charter Commission, visit the City website.

Broken Lights? Don't Toss Them!

Putting away all your holiday decorations for the season? If you come across string lights and extension cords that are no longer usable, finding a specialized recycling place for broken and unusable string lights is a much better choice than throwing them in the garbage. Hennepin County has two drop-off facilities that accept these items for free, including one in Bloomington. Find drop-off locations and hours. Hopkins Public Works also accepts string lights in the building foyer at 11100 Excelsior Boulevard, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you're looking to earn a little money for your string lights and cords, scrap metal places like Express Metals in Hopkins is another great option for recycling those items.

Small Business Grants Program

Main Street America and Amex are offering the Shop Small Grants Program. Eligible small business owners across the U.S. can apply for $20,000 grants. Applications are accepted until Friday, January 16. Learn more online.
