Take Note: Garbage Collection Schedule Changes Week of December 22

A heads up for our Hopkins residential garbage customers: The collection schedule for the week of December 22 will be adjusted due to the Christmas holiday:

• Monday, December 22: Normal pick-up
• Tuesday, December 23: Normal pick-up
• Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25: City offices are closed, so there will be no garbage and organics pick-up
• Friday, December 26: Pick-up for Wednesday and Thursday routes.

Charter Commission Accepting Applications

The City of Hopkins is seeking dedicated residents to serve on the Charter Commission. The Charter Commission helps review and maintain the City’s Charter, ensuring that Hopkins’ governing document remains effective and up to date. Interested residents are encouraged to apply online by December 31. Final appointments are made by the Chief Judge of Hennepin County. Get Help With Your Energy Bills

The state Energy Assistance Program can help pay your natural gas and electricity bills between October 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. Hopkins households that are income-qualified can apply to receive a grant paid directly to Xcel Energy or CenterPoint Energy. Although grants will be delayed for up to six weeks this year due to the federal government shutdown, city staff encourage residents in need to apply to the program through the Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County. Apply on the Community Action Partnerships website. 

After enrolling in the Energy Assistance Program, you may be eligible for free home weatherization assistance, which may include insulation installation, furnace repair or replacement, water heater replacement and solar panels.

You can also set up a payment plan with Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy and let them know if you have applied to the Energy Assistance Program and are awaiting funding. If you are unable to agree to a payment plan with your utility company, contact the Consumer Affairs Office of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. For additional help with energy bills, reach out to the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota.

Buy a Brick This Holiday Season

Leave a lasting impression in Clock Tower Plaza with a commemorative brick! The “Buy a Brick” program gives you an opportunity to be a special part of Hopkins history. Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations can purchase bricks with their names imprinted that will be placed in the Plaza at the southwest corner of 9th and Mainstreet. Bricks are a great gift idea for family and friends, and are a special way to recognize your Hopkins heritage. Special symbols are available too, so you can personalize a brick for someone based on their interests or hobbies (ex: soccer player, military, etc.). Learn more and purchase a brick online.
